No Shave November
This year the Newberry Township Police Department will be taking part in No-Shave November, in support of Mental Health Awareness. This is a one-time charity event where our officers don’t shave or cut their hair the entire month of November. All donations will go towards NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). NAMI is the nation's largest mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions affected by Mental Illness.
This organization also provides specialized training to law enforcement officers, to deal more effectively and safely with someone having a mental health crisis. Since the training in York County was initiated in 2010, over 600 individuals have been trained. Among them are officers from 14 different police departments, the York County Sheriff’s Department, York County Prison, York and UPMC Hospital Security Department, as well as the Pennsylvania State Police Chaplain.
Please help to decrease the stigma, educate the community, and impact the lives of those affected by mental illness by donating to NAMI through our event. Thank you for your consideration and for helping us spread awareness.
