Sgt. Barkley is part of the Newberry Township Police Department’s Community Outreach program since 2018. Sgt. Barkley frequently visits schools and participates in a variety of community oriented activities and programs. The Sgt. Barkley project was inspired by the department’s firm belief that police-community relations, especially with our youth, is imperative to the successful development, health, and general safety through-out our community. Sgt. Barkley provides a way for our officers to engage with the youth in our communities in a fun and entertaining way.
Sgt. Barkley was assigned his first shift on Tuesday, August 7th, 2018 at our annual National Night Out Event. He enjoyed meeting hundreds of members of the community and displaying his brand new car and equipment. Sgt. Barkley looks forward to visiting the schools through out the school year and participating in parades and community events.
