On November 12, 2019, the Newberry Township Police filed charges against Bryan Adam Hammaker following a double fatal vehicle collision that occurred on December 1, 2018. Charges against Hammaker include two counts each of Murder of the 3rd Degree, Homicide by Motor Vehicle While DUI, Homicide by Vehicle, and one count each of Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault by Motor Vehicle While DUI, Aggravated Assault and other related offenses.
On December 1, 2018 at 1:44 AM Newberry Police were dispatched to a single vehicle motor vehicle crash in the 700 block of Old Trail Rd. in Newberry Township. Two occupants in the vehicle, 26-year-old Joseph Stevens and 25 year-old Ryan Klaiber were killed as a result of the collision. A 26 year old passenger in the vehicle and Hammaker where both injured.
Following an extensive investigation, it was determined that Mr. Hammaker lost control of the 2017 Ford Fusion he was operating and struck a tree. It was further determined that Mr. Hammaker was under the influence of both alcohol and THC (impairing ingredient in Marijuana) at the time of the incident.
As a result of this investigation, the above charges were filed and Mr. Hammaker was arraigned by the Honorable Magisterial District Judge Richard Thomas. Bail was denied and Mr. Hammaker was committed to York County Prison. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Monday, November 25, 2019 at the office of MDJ Scott J. Gross.
