In lieu of the endangered missing person that our department was investigating on 3/17/22, many residents received an automated phone call that they thought was spam. We had several residents call us to check to see if this was actually a legit call. Well, it was a legit call!
Lower Windsor Township Police Department would like to take this opportunity to let you know that York County 911 has the capability to send out automated calls concerning emergencies such as Missing Children or an Endangered Missing Person. And those calls can be sent out to a specific geographic area. In this case, we did a 5 mile radius from where the person was last seen. These alert calls are sent out to land lines in the area. Not everyone with a cell phone received the call, just land lines.
This is just a way to notify our residents of an emergency in the area. We posted this on our Crimewatch site, as well as our Facebook page. If you haven’t downloaded the Crimewatch app yet, you may want to do so. It’s a great tool for the police department to communicate with residents when emergencies arise.
Should you need to confirm an alert notification call in the future, please contact Lower Windsor Township Police Department to confirm that it's a true emergency.
