On 10/05/2022 at approximately 1:40 PM in Stewartstown Borough a male subject attempted to gain access to a residence by pretending he was with Met-Ed. The subject knocked on the resident's door and the homeowner answered. The door remained locked as the victim spoke to the subject. The subject stated he was with Met-Ed and was there to change out equipment so that their electrical "rate" would be locked in. The victim being skeptical said she would call Met-Ed to reschedule. The subject then claimed that Met-Ed had notified them on their utility bill. When the victim started to call Met-Ed to verify the information, the subject left in a hurry. The subject is described as heavy set black male with 6-8 inch long braided black hair. The subject displayed a lanyard around his neck but the ID card was blank. The subject was driving a tan in color Honda Odyssey minivan with no markings on it. The vehicle was last seen on S. Main Street in the area of Winter Ave. Met-Ed was contacted and this was confirmed to be a scam. Met-Ed will not perform service or upgrades by only using a utility bill for notification. Also Met-Ed does not normally need access into your residence to perform their upgrades. Please be cautious with whom you allow in your homes and please educate your older relatives of this scam.
