When an agency implements a program, it is important to regularly check to make sure the program is running smoothly. Recently individuals from the National Network for Safe Communities at John Jay College visited York to review the Group Violence Initiative the York City Police Department implemented. Louisa Aviles and Jefferson Pinerio of National Network for Safe Communities visited and assisted the York City Police department in assessing and updating our audit of the most active and violent groups throughout York City.
Furthermore, counterparts from Wilmington Delaware visited as a peer exchange to look at the progress of the York City Police Department. Directors from their GVI program were present during presentations and spent time with Officers and Chief Bankert in learning the GVI program and getting to know one another. Further, members of the public who showed an interest in helping and learning more were presented with a community training. The most important part of this customs training is where we bring the message that we want individuals “Safe, Alive, and out of prison.”
