Due to the events in 2020, specifically the unfortunate death of George Floyd, came a series of police department policy recommendations. The #8CantWait campaign influenced police departments nationwide to review their internal policies.
                
Many of these policy recommendations were already in place by the York City Police Department and the remaining items were already being taught during in-service training. However, the York City Police Department is proud to say that all eight recommended policy items have been formally adopted and are now written into the police department’s policies.

The York City Police Department is one of approximately 145 departments that continues to provide professional policing to our community as an accredited agency through the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission and the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.
