E. North St and N. Duke St Shooting Update
On September 2, 2019 at approximately 2:53 PM the York City Police Department responded to 53 E. North St for a report of a trespassing. The co-owner of the property spoke with a trespasser, Donovain Saulisbury 31 years old, York, and asked him to leave. Saulisbury responded by cursing at the co-owner and threatened to kill him. The co-owner then called 911.
Upon arrival, officers approached Saulisbury, who pulled a BB gun that resembled a semi-automatic firearm from his waistband and pointed it at officers. One of the officers fired at Saulisbury and a short foot chase ensued, where additional shots were fired which struck Saulisbury in the leg. Medical care was immediately given, and he was transported to York Hospital. The replica BB gun was recovered underneath Saulisbury as medical care was being given.
Pennsylvania State Police were contacted and conducted the investigation into this incident. They discovered the replica BB gun and multiple surveillance videos which confirmed this incident. Saulisbury has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Possessing Instruments of Crime, Terroristic Threats, Simple Assault, and Criminal Trespass. Saulisbury was arraigned at York Hospital on 9/2/19, where he remains in stable condition.
Per departmental policy, officers involved were placed on administrative leave until the Pennsylvania State Police investigation is concluded.
