On March 5th, 2020 at approximately 1:27 AM the York City Police Department responded to the 300 block of Oak Lane for the report of a shooting. Once there they discovered a 41-year-old adult male victim, of York who had been shot. The victim was then transported to York Hospital for treatment.
Also, on scene was a Daryl Sweatman 36, of York. Sweatman and other family members were transported to York City Police Headquarters to be interviewed for this incident. Sweatman stated to Investigators that he was at his residence sleeping when he heard a loud crash, and his mother screaming. He states he retrieved a gun, and when he went downstairs, he observed the glass to the front door had been broken and someone was coming through the door with a hammer. Sweatman admitted that he then fired 3-4 shots at the unknown male. Sweatman states he heard the male say he was hit and stagger to the kitchen. It was at this time Sweatman realized that the victim he had shot was his uncle.
Sweatman had previously plead guilty to Felony Drug charges which made him ineligible to possess a firearm. His current charges are for Possession of a Firearm Prohibited.
