Nova is an American Pitbull Terrier that is trained and certified through the American Working Dog Association in detecting Narcotics as well as Tracking. Nova was a rescue that was found on the highway in Northern California.  She was sent to a shelter, was set to be euthanized when she was rescued by 11th Hour K9 Rescue.  11th Hour K9 Rescue thought that Nova would be a great fit for Wes Keeling and his Rescue to Resource program at Sector K9 in Midlothian Texas.  After a few months Nova left California and headed to Texas to start her Police K9 Training at Sector K9. Nova was trained in drug detection and tracking.

York County Regional Police and Northeastern School District partnered to bring a new program to South Central Pennsylvania and bring Nova here as an SRO K9.  On July 10th 2022 Officer Shaun Goodman, who is the SRO at Northeastern School District flew to Texas to begin his training as Nova's handler. After completing two weeks training in Texas, Nova and Officer Goodman trained for an additional four weeks at Stateline Canine in Hanover, Pa.   Starting in the 2022-23 school year, Nova will be with Officer Goodman on duty in the Northeastern School District.  Nova will help keep kids safe by keeping illegal drugs out of school.  Nova will also help build relationships with staff and students of the Northeastern School District.   Nova lives with Officer Goodman and his family when not on-duty.  Nova's first day on duty was 8/22/2022 where she was introduced to the whole staff at the Northeastern School District.   K9 Nova has been received with an overwhelming amount of support from the community and looks forward to serving them for the foreseeable future.
