**PLEASE USE CAUTION - THIS PERSON IS CONSIDERED TO BE ARMED AND DANGEROUS**
At approximately 2217 hours on December 2, 2019 York County Control dispatched Officers from this Department to a reported shooting at Regal Cinemas located at 455 Town Center Dr in West Manchester Township. The dispatcher advised that there was a male on the phone who was yelling that his girlfriend had been shot in the face. The dispatcher reported that they could not get any additional information.
Officer Timothy Fink from this Department arrived on scene approximately 1 minute after dispatch, entered the movie theater and began heading toward the auditoriums. Employees in the hallway advised him that the incident occurred in theater number 6. Upon his entry into Theater #6, the theater lights were out and the movie was running. He was able to use his mini flashlight to locate a black male standing over a seated black female near the back of the theater, along the right side as he faced the projector. The black male (hereafter referred to as Witness 1) standing over the seated black female (hereafter referred to as Witness 2) advised that his girlfriend had been shot in the face. He approached the seated female and determined that she was conscious and alert. At this point an unidentified female standing near the left side of the theater stated, "He is shot too." and pointed to a black male laying motionless on the floor in the back row. He approached that subject, later identified as Andre Maurice White, Jr., and found no signs of life (no breathing and no pulse). He did notice what appeared to be a bleeding wound in his center chest area. He also noted that when he felt for a carotid pulse blood began running from his nasal passage. Officer Fink then returned to Witness 1 and spoke with him briefly to obtain description(s) of the person(s) responsible for the shooting.
West York Ambulance responded to render aid and transported both victims to York Hospital. The male victim was pronounced dead at York Hospital a short time after arrival. The female victim, Witness 2, was being treated for her injuries.
Once the scene was secure Officer Fink met with a theater employee in the office who was able to access the theater surveillance system and review video. Based on descriptions provided to Officer Fink by Witness 1 they were able to determine that there were two male subjects responsible for the shooting. Surveillance footage showed that the two suspects he described arrived at the theater at approximately 10:06 PM and walked past the ticket check station where two employees were standing. The suspects walk past these two employees without any confrontation or conversation and walk directly to theater number 6. The two suspects can be seen entering the theater. Further review of the video revealed that the suspects then left the theater at approximately 10:14 PM. Both are observed running from the theater toward the main exit about 13 seconds apart.
I was called to the scene from an off-duty status and, upon arrival at the theaters with Detective Davenport of this Department, conducted a brief interview with Witness 1 in an effort to gather any pertinent information that could be immediately broadcast about the actors. After doing a preliminary walk-through of the crime scene with Officer Krout, Detective Davenport and I returned to our station with Witness 1 to conduct a more in-depth audio/video recorded statement. Witness 1 advised that he and his girlfriend, Witness 2, went to Regal Cinemas and stated that they took notice of a specific vehicle in the parking lot that was parked near them. He described the car as a red 4-door sedan with tinted windows and advised that he and his girlfriend observed the occupants getting out of the car and going to the movie theater as well. Witness 1 further advised that he and his girlfriend got their tickets and entered theater #6 and went to their seats in the second to last row of the theater. He advised that they were the first two people in the theater. A few minutes later the same two male subjects they observed getting out of the red car then entered the theater and initially sat down in the end two seats of the row directly in front of them. Then stated a few minutes after that two additional couples entered the theater and went to their seats - one couple sat several rows in front of them and the other male and female couple, which turned out to be victim Andre White and his girlfriend Kieara Martinez, sat in the last row of the theater, behind them. Witness 1 then stated that the two male subjects moved from the seats they were in to the end of the same row in which he and his girlfriend were seated, in the last two seats at the end of the row. After a few more moments passed, Witness 1 stated that one of the two male subjects got up out of his seat and went toward the theater exit. Seconds later, the second subject got up out of his seat, walked back around that row of seats to the last row and began shooting. Witness 1 stated he did not immediately know what was happening but turned his head toward the noise and visually observed a gun in that subject's hand and described the "fire" coming out of the end of it as the shots were being fired. Stated that the shooter then went back out to the end aisle and headed toward the theater exit, continuing to fire shots as he did so - it was presumably at this point that Witness 2 was struck by two of the rounds fired. Witness 1 stated when he realized she was hit/injured he began to try to render aid by applying pressure to her wound(s) with his coat and shirt. He also then took out his phone and called 911. Witness 1 described the gunman as a lighter complected black male subject wearing dark pants and a top that was slightly darker than the pants. He further described him as wearing white "Jordan" sneakers with dark blue trim and stated he was initially wearing a fitted baseball cap but he later took that off and put up his hood instead.
Detective Davenport and I then went out to York Hospital and conducted a preliminary overview examination of the body of Andre White Jr, who had been pronounced dead by an ER trauma physician at 10:55 PM due to multiple gunshot wounds. While in the trauma bay we were alerted by hospital security staff that a female matching the description of the female accompanying Andre White in the movie theater was now in a vehicle in the hospital parking garage. Detective Davenport and I then went out to the garage and located that vehicle and the female, Kieara Martinez. We spoke with her at that location about what had transpired in the theater. She advised she and White went to the movies and stated that they encountered a subject at the doors to Regal Cinemas that White apparently knew and had a very brief conversation. She stated this subject told White that some specific person was inside the movies, but stated she did not know who they were referring to. She advised they then got their tickets and went into the theater. As they made their way up the aisle steps toward their seats in the last/top row of the theater, she stated that White took notice of the subject that would eventually be his shooter and that the two had a very brief exchange of words. Martinez also stated that she took notice of the two male subjects they walked past getting up and changing seats, moving one row closer to where she and White were seated, and talking quietly to one another. From that point she gave an account matching that of Witness 1, stating that moments later one of the two subjects got up and made his way toward the exit at the front part of the theater. Just after that the other subject got up, rounded the aisle and came toward them shooting. She stated he then turned and ran back toward the exit as well, continuing to shoot back in their direction as he fled.
On December 3, 2019 Officer Fink returned to Regal Cinemas to review additional video surveillance and purchase records. He spoke with Regal Cinemas Corporate Field Auditor, who provided him with printed photographs taken from surveillance video from 12/2/2019. The photographs depict two subjects in clothing matching that of the suspects using a ticket kiosk. The video and photographs show no one else in the area of the kiosks at this time. The time stamp from the video surveillance is reported as 12/2/2019 09:50:46 PM. The Corporate Field Auditor also provided a printout showing a credit card purchase made at the kiosks on 12/2/2019 09:51:15 PM. The purchase record indicates the purchase of two tickets for theater number 6, movie "Queen and Slim", seats F8 and F9, and a used payment method of a Visa card with a partial card number ending in 7018. The Auditor then contacted the financial institution who handles the cinema financial transactions and was able to obtain a full credit card number for the transaction.
At the same time that information was being obtained, Officer Lance Krout went to the Wal-Mart located at 1000 Town Center Dr, in the same mall complex as Regal Cinemas, to review their surveillance video on the off chance that the two suspects were in the store at some point on the evening of December 2. He did find that two subjects appearing to be the same two subjects depicted in the movie theater surveillance footage, having matching descriptions and wearing the same clothing, were in fact inside the store to make a purchase. The two subjects remained together that entire time. An overhead camera view showed a time of 10:02 PM on the screen of the phone that one of the subjects was holding. The footage from Wal-Mart also clearly shows that only one of the two subjects is dressed as described by Witness 1 - wearing white "Jordans" with dark trim and a black fitted "Sox" (Chicago White Sox) cap turned backwards. They made a cash purchase and exited the store. Further review of exterior footage from Wal-Mart and footage from other cameras within the Town Center complex show those two subjects getting out of a red sedan to go into Wal-Mart and then getting back into a red sedan after exiting Wal-Mart and traveling in the direction of Regal Cinemas.
Still photos pulled from the surveillance footage from both the Regal Cinemas and Wal-Mart were disseminated to other area law enforcement agencies. Multiple Detectives and Officers from the York City Police Department were able to identify the subject in the Sox cap, identified by the description provided by Witness 1 as the shooter in this case, as Anu Johnson based on prior dealings. In addition, Officer Bradley Engle of this Department identified the subject in the surveillance footage as Anu Johnson based on prior in-person dealings/contact. All of those Officers were also able to provide a date of birth and known Facebook page for Anu Johnson. Photographs found on Johnson's known Facebook page and also his PA driver's license photo were found to closely match the subject depicted in all surveillance photos/video from the cinemas and Wal-Mart, and described/identified as the shooter, on the night of December 2nd.
In summary, witnesses from inside the movie theater were able to clearly state that two male subjects entered the theater together and sat next to one another. They additionally stated that, a few moments after the male victim entered the theater and made his way to his seat, one of those two male subjects gets up and heads toward the theater exit and the second gets up and goes to the back row of the theater, where Andre White is seated, and shoots him. The second male, responsible for the actual shooting, is clearly and accurately described as wearing dark pants, white "Jordans" with dark trim, a top that was slightly darker than his pants, and initially wearing a fitted baseball cap which he removed at some point prior to doing the shooting and fleeing the theater. The two male subjects are observed on video surveillance at multiple locations within the Town Center complex that night just prior to the shooting. Only one of the two subjects matches the description given for the shooter - the subject later identified as Anu Johnson by multiple law enforcement officers that have had prior dealings and in-person contact with Johnson in the course of their employment. Biographical information provided by those Officers for Anu Johnson led to additional known photos of Anu Johnson that also closely matched the appearance of the subject depicted in the surveillance footage from the cinema and Wal-Mart the night of December 2, 2019.
Based on the above information I ask that a warrant be issued for the arrest of Anu-Malik Lee Johnson to answer the charges that I have made.
