On 02/19/2019, at approx. 2310 hrs. officers were dispatched to 2247 Sycamore Rd., which is within West Manchester Twp., for a burglary report.
The responding officer reported that upon his arrival he spoke with the homeowner. Just prior to calling PD, the owner observed the basement door was ajar and upon further inspection, the door had been forced open. The door knob and deadbolt lock were damaged and it appeared that someone had kicked the door in. Several shoe prints were observed by the officer on the exterior of the basement door. Other shoe prints, which matched these, were observed on the patio and deck area leading to the rear sliding door. The owner reported that an Apple laptop, with a stated value of $100.00, which was in a laptop bag, was missing from the kitchen area. The owner also reported that a bottle of champagne, with a stated value of $25.00 was missing as well.
Throughout the week following the burglary, the detective assigned to the case had received information in regards to a suspect, Damien Rinehart, linked to numerous daytime burglaries in multiple jurisdictions throughout the county which matched the pattern of this burglary.
On 02/27/2019, the detective was notified that Northern York County Regional Police had taken Rinehart and Cynthia Vaughn into custody while they were fleeing an active burglary within their jurisdiction. The shoes that Rinehart was wearing when arrested were seized, which were black and white checkered Vans. The vehicle that Rinehart and Vaughn were operating, a black 2007 Toyota Camry bearing TX registration KGL-9024, was seized and subsequently searched by a detective from that department. The laptop belonging to the victim in this case was found on the back seat of this vehicle. The detective assigned to this case responded to Northern York County Regional Police Department on 02/28/2019 and met with their detective. They viewed the shoes that Rinehart was wearing when arrested. The soles of these shoes match the shoe prints found at our burglary scene.
The detective charged the suspect, DAMIEN RINEHART, with the crimes of BURGLARY, THEFT, and CRIMINAL MISCHIEF.
