Message from the Chief of Police
Hello to our Spring Garden Township Community. As we have all become aware, we are living in unprecedented times; however, regardless of national or local events involving COVID-19, our primary mission of public safety and crime control has not changed. You can expect our police officers and staff to continue their duty with the highest level of professionalism. I echo the comments of our District Attorney, David Sunday, in stating that the law enforcement community is working very hard to ensure your safety. Individuals who commit crimes are going to be arrested, and individuals committing crimes that merit incarceration will receive the prison sentence they deserve.
As all of you, we have taken the necessary precautions to protect our police officers and staff, including closing the police department front office to the public; however, we will have office staff working and answering the telephone. Should you need to call the police department the number is 717-843-0851.
If you are a business owner in Spring Garden Township, due to the high volume of waiver requests to remain open, Governor Wolf's Administration is delaying enforcement of the order that all non-life-sustaining businesses in Pennsylvania must close to slow the spread of COVID-19. The order shall be effective Monday, March 23, at 8:00 AM. Those businesses needing clarification on whether they are defined as life-sustaining should email the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) customer service resource account at email@example.com, or call 1-877-PA-Health and select option 1 to reach DCED staff.
As we do with crime and other matters that impact our community, we will work through this together to ensure that the health, safety and welfare of our community is maintained. Stay calm and take the precautions recommended by the health care professionals.
George J. Swartz Chief of Police
