Leaving Animals Outside in This Weather

The Township would like to remind all residents that it is unlawful under local ordinance for any person to leave any dog outside and unattended during any period in which a severe weather warning has been issued for York County by the National Weather Service for a continuous period of time greater than 1/2  hour if the temperature during such period remains entirely below 32 degrees.

PETA reminds us that dogs kept outdoors will quickly freeze to death.  Plastic doghouses, barrels, and other forms of inadequate shelter will NOT protect a dog or other animal from frostbite and hypothermia.  Such temperatures will also cause water sources to freeze over, leading to dehydration, which quickly becomes fatal.  Allowing an animal to suffer in this manner is in violation of state and local laws.
