Newberry Township Police Department proudly announces the addition of two new K-9 teams.

Beginning Saturday May 18, 2019 our new canine teams will begin their tour of duty in Newberry Township. K-9 Rico is a 16 month old German Shepherd who is partnered with Sergeant Christopher Martinez. K-9 Zar is a 15 month old German Shepherd - Belgium Malinois mix who is partnered with Officer Nicholas Vozzella.

On May 10, 2019, both K-9 teams completed a rigorous 4 week canine academy and were successfully certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) in the areas of: Suspect apprehension, Narcotics detection, Tracking, Building searches, and Handler protection.

Our K-9 unit is committed to providing the same level of service that the residents of Newberry Township and our contracted municipalities were accustom to having when K-9 Tazer was with us. These teams will assist with our agencies efforts to combat the increased drug use and crimes committed by drug dependent individuals seeking to support their habit.

At this time we would like to personally thank each and every person, business and association that has graciously supported our agencies commitment to continue Tazer’s legacy and afford us the opportunity to deploy two K-9 teams.  Without your overwhelming support this valuable asset and resource would not have been possible.

To our beloved friend Tazer: Rest easy knowing that Rico and Zar will continue your watch over our residents!
