With the heavy rains we have already received and much more yet to come, please use caution if you have to be on the roads. The amount of rain we may get is impossible to predict, but forcasters have said that at any given moment we could find ourselves under a storm that would drop 1 or 2 inches of rain in an hour. If one of these heavier pockets of rain moves over Fairview Township, the flooding issues will get worse.
Be alert for rapidly changing conditions such as flooded roadways, trees blocking the road and downed power lines. Some roadways that are prone to flooding include areas of Lewisberry Road, Old York Road and Limekiln Road. Motorists should never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. If you encounter a blocked roadway or other safety issue, please call 911. If emergency crews have closed a road, it is for your own safety and motorists must turn around. If you drive past road closed signs, you face a fine of up to $500.00.
Currently, our highway department is attempting to repair a sinkhole in the 700-block of Limekiln Road so that roadway may be partially or fully closed for a period of time.
